Flathead Lake, Northwestern Montana, U.S. (4)

Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the western United States. It is over 27 miles (44 km) long and 15 miles (24 km) wide, with a maximum depth greater than 340 feet (104 m). While the lake is not without problems and threats, it remains one of the cleanest in the world. Although we can't see the lake from our home, a walk of a few hundred feet takes us over a ridge and provides spectacular views of the lake, the islands at its southern end, and the town of Polson, MT.
